The Ultimate Dildo Size Guide

the ultimate dildo size guide

Ahh. Dildos.

The perfect sex toy for filling you up, stimulating your aching pleasure points, and turning your sex games into an orgasmic dream come true.

Dildos come in pretty much every size you can imagine, not to mention an array of designs, colours, and styles. But, with so many delectable choices on the menu, where do you start? And how do you know what size dildo to choose? Does size really matter?

Fear not horny friends, just read our ultimate dildo size guide and you’ll discover everything you need to know.

Dildo Sizes

Dildos come in a delightful range of toe-curling options, with functions, features, dildo length, and dildo girth to suit pretty much every kinky need. From anal and realistic dildos to suction cup, vibrating, and large dildos, there is a bounty of these thrusting beauties to choose from.

OK. So the choice is there. Now you need to know what size to reach for.

Let’s have a cheeky look at some of the common terms used to describe dildo sizes and what the heck they mean:

  • Insertable length: This is the bit that really matters – the part of the dildo that you insert inside your body. The insertable dildo length is typically measured from the top of the testicles (if the dildo has testicles) to the tip.
  • Length: The dildo length is the length of the whole dildo from top to bottom (including any features such as balls or suction cups). This is generally the length described on the packaging.
  • Circumference/Girth: Ready for some tingles? The girth or circumference is the measurement of the dildo around the widest part.
  • Diameter/Width: This measurement is for the width around the widest insertable part of the dildo (base this on how much your vagina or anus can comfortably stretch).

Size is the most important thing when it comes to choosing your dildo. The right curves, shapes, and functions won’t bring you the satisfaction you’re craving if your dildo doesn’t fill and pleasure you.

Think about what your body can handle. If you’re used to having a 6-inch penis inside of you, and you already felt stretched to your limits with it, then there isn’t much point in diving straight in with a dildo with a 12-inch insertable length. If you want to be stretched to your limits, then this is something you can work up to.

The same goes for the width of your dildo. If you get all the pleasure you need with a couple of fingers inserted, then opt for a more realistic width measurement. Of course, if more girth is what you’re hankering after, then choose a dildo with a wider width and take as much as you can (comfortably) handle.

Another factor you might want to think about is the firmness of your dildo, as they all have different firmness levels. These can range from super soft to rock hard. A stiff dildo will feel larger than a softer version, while a dildo in a softer material will shape to the contours of your vagina or anus.

Most Popular Dildo Size

Pop quiz.

Do you know the average penis size? When erect that is.

The answer is 5.1 to 5.5 inches with an average girth of 1.5 inches. So, that’s something to think about when choosing the size of your dildo. Which is probably why the average most popular dildo size is 7.5 inches. Remember though – the length of the dildo includes the whole shebang, not the insertable length, which is closer to the size of the average penis.

A graphic comparing the average dildo length (19.1 cm or 7.52 inches) to the average erect human penis length (13.1 cm or 5.16 inches). The dildo is larger, both are labeled with measurements, and there's a vertical ruler for scale on a pink background.

If you’re a beginner, keep in mind that a LOT of dildos are much larger than the average penis size. So before you get too excited and treat yourself to a king-size dildo, think about how easy and comfortable it will be to use it.

The most popular searches for dildo sizes range from a glorious 6 inches to a whopping 12 inches. But they’re also available from 2 inches all the way up to 20 inches! And some mega dildos have a more than generous girth…greater than 6 inches. That’s a lotta bang for your buck.

You might want to build up to a mammoth dildo over time as you get more experienced. Which is kinda half the fun anyway!

A bar graph titled "Top 5 Most Searched Dildo Sizes" shows five dildo sizes in different colors. The sizes and colors from left to right are 9 inches (green), 6 inches (yellow), 8 inches (pink), 10 inches (blue), and 12 inches (black). Heights represent monthly Google searches.

Best Dildos for Beginners

Just because certain dildo sizes are more popular, it doesn’t mean they’re for everyone. And bigger doesn’t always mean better.

Dildos can have many purposes, one of which is how deep they can go, but keep in mind if you’re looking for G-spot or prostate stimulation, they’re located about 2.5 to 3 inches inside. So you don’t necessarily need the longest or thickest dildo.

If you’re on the hunt for the best dildo for beginners, you might want to start with a slimmer and shorter dildo and as you gain confidence and your body learns to adapt (with stretching and tightness) you can work your way up to the big boys. If that’s what you fancy. Larger dildos with a wider girth can give you more stimulation and a greater sensation, as your body stretches to accommodate it.

You can also start with a softer, silicone dildo, and if you start craving something harder and stronger, experiment with other materials…and perhaps a knee-quivering curved shape to really get your rocks off.

The last thing to think about is whether you want to use your dildo for vaginal or anal stimulation since there are big differences between the vagina and anus, so the same size dildo might not fit both. Vaginas tend to be more flexible with a larger opening, while the anus is a much tighter hole. This is why the dildo circumference matters more than the length when it comes to anal play.

Use your fingers to see how many you’re comfortable using. Lube up, get into a comfortable position (on your back for vaginal and doggy-style for anal) and slip those fingers in! When you reach your limits, you’ll get a good idea of what size dildo is best for you.

Finding the Right Dildo Size for You

Now you’re a dildo master, you can start shopping around (and experimenting – always our favourite part) to discover what size dildo is perfect for you and your yearning needs.

Remember that just because dildos come in all shapes, sizes, and colours, it’s important not to get pulled in by choosing the prettiest or sexiest looking dildo. Always think about what you want to use it for and how much thrust you can really handle.
